Hi Stephanie!
Thank you so much for sending this super fun Disneyland Resort planning question to us hEAR at planDisney! First off, Congratulations and chEARs!!! I can think of no better location than The Happiest Place on Earth to find out if you're having a Junior Mickey or Mini Minnie.
Mickey and his pals LOVE to celebrate anything and everything. I'm glad that you asked because yes, there are some guidelines. Disneyland does have a list of items that are
not permitted. Some of the most popular ways to pop the surprise in a gender reveal are unfortunately on the list, including but not limited to poppers, colored powder, balloon popping, any kind of wrapped gift, pinatas, large banners, basically anything that can make a mess, loud noise, or cause a disturbance for other Guests. (I want to stress the 'wrapped gift' meaning; security will open up every backpack, bag, and box, wrapped or not. If you have someone else with you who might be the person in charge of the surprise who already knows what you're having, then that person can bring cupcakes, an outfit, a stuffed animal, a small sign, etc in with them so the surprise for you isn't ruined at Security/the bag check area.)
So those are the don'ts. As far as the dos - do pick a super cute photo spot. If it's just the two of you, line up for a PhotoPass picture in front of the Castle! Let the Photographer know what's going on so they'll be sure to capture the moment of surprise plus a few 'sinking in' snaps afterward. You can purchase these photos individually, or better yet, all
Disneyland Resort PhotoPass Photos are included with a daily purchase of
Genie+. (And technically only one person in your party would need to make this purchase!) Do have a few fun ideas if you're planning on purchasing something at the park (Mickey ears, a stuffed animal, etc) as some merchandise items are still somewhat hard to find thanks to shipping delays. Do think about your options to purchase things in the
Downtown Disney District as they're after security (like blue or pink cupcakes from
Sprinkles) so you won't be as limited in what you can and cannot bring. Same with a
Restaurant at a Disneyland Resort Hotel as those are all pre-security as well. And Do check out
gender reveal ideas other planDisney Panelists have suggested!
I hope that this helped to clEAR your question up, Stephanie! Be sure to check out the
