Hi there, Sunil, and welcome to planDisney! I'm delighted to hear that you're thinking about joining the coolest club around -
Disney Vacation Club! Geeking out over Vacation Points and all of the other ins and outs of DVC Membership is kind of my specialty, and I'll be happy to share some thoughts as you're weighing your options.
We have been DVC Members for more than a decade (which is hard to believe - time flies!), and I can honestly say we have never regretted the decision. As our girls have grown up, we've enjoyed vacations at many Disney destinations and created core memories that I wouldn't trade for anything. I currently have two trips to
Walt Disney World Resort planned with our points for the next year - one with some of my planDisney pals, and one with my husband for our youngest daughter's dance team nationals at the
ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Sunil, 150-point memberships are very common in the DVC world! This is the minimum number of points required to receive a DVC Membership Card and access Membership Extras such as Moonlight Magic events, Member Cruises with Disney Cruise Line, access to the Member lounges in the theme parks, and exclusive discounts on tours, dining, and shopping. You must purchase direct from Disney Vacation Club to receive these benefits.
While I can't advise you on a specific number of points to purchase, my best advice is to spend some time reviewing the
Points Charts to get a good idea of what you'll need to vacation the way you like. A week at Disney's Old Key West Resort in February will use far fewer points than a stay at Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows at Christmas - so it's important to think about what time of year you want to travel, as well as what type of accommodations you're willing to stay in. The Points Charts spell all of this out for you, so you can calculate an ideal number for your contract.
It's also important to understand that you can bank and borrow your points to combine them for a longer trip (very common for our pals from across the pond!), or a stay in a larger villa. This adds some additional flexibility to your membership, which may translate to a trip for a big milestone or a special celebration!
Sunil, I hope this information is helpful as you're considering taking the plunge with DVC. If you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to
reach out again. Thanks so much for stopping by planDisney!
Stay Magical,
Susan
