I have a (fully paid) Disney cruise coming up, followed by a (deposit made) Disney resort stay. If I have gift cards added to my Disney experience app, can I use them to pay for both the rest of my resort balance and onboard purchases on my cruise?

    Ahoy, Gina!

Welcome aboard planDisney! It sounds like you’ve got a magical one-two combo lined up with a sailing followed by time at Walt Disney World, and those Disney Gift Cards are about to get a workout worthy of a full vacation montage.

Let’s start with your Walt Disney World Resort stay. If you booked through a travel agent, you’ll want to reach out to them so they can apply your Disney Gift Card balance toward the remaining amount due. If you booked on your own, you can head into your My Disney Experience app, pull up your resort reservation, and make a payment using your gift cards there. It’s a pretty smooth process and a great way to knock down that remaining balance before you even arrive.

Now let’s talk about your cruise, because this is where things shift just a bit. You won’t be able to directly link your gift cards inside the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app ahead of time. Instead, my go-to move is to visit the Onboard Gifts website at least a couple of days before sailing and preload those funds as onboard credit. You’ll select the “Onboard Credit” option, enter the amount you’d like to add, and then use your Disney Gift Cards at checkout. Once you step onboard, that credit is ready to go for things like specialty dining, merchandise, or maybe that “Drink of the Day” you definitely earned.

If that preloading window sneaks by, no worries at all. On embarkation day, you can stop by Guest Services and have a Cast Member apply your gift cards directly to your onboard account. Just have the physical cards or the card numbers handy. From there, your onboard purchases will pull from that balance first, and if anything remains, it will fall back on the payment method you set up during Online Check-In.

One thing I always like to keep in mind is that onboard credit added ahead of time might not show up immediately when you first connect to the ship’s Wi-Fi. It usually appears later in the evening on embarkation day, so don’t panic if it doesn’t pop up right away.

I hope this helps you map out how to put those gift cards to work across both your land and sea adventures. With a little planning, you’ll be able to stretch that pixie-dusted budget across your entire trip and make the most of every moment.

Sea ya real soon with warm air, calm seas, and a ship that always feels like home,
