Hi, we have 5 full days and 2 half days (one AM, one PM) for our 1st trip to WDW April 21. With 2 girls ages 5 and 8, we plan to do 2 full days at MK, 1 day AK, 1 day Epcot, 1 day Studios. What should we do with the half days (arriving and departing days

    Hi Lisa,

So, this is your first family vacation to Walt Disney World?  I'm just giddy with excitement for all of you!  Prepare for the adventure of a lifetime.

There are so many things you could do on your days of arrival and departure but here is what I recommend:

Day of Arrival:  After you check in, get to know your Disney resort better.  If you have time for your girls to enjoy the resort pool, do so!  Also, explore the resort grounds so that you will know where the restaurants, gift shop, and other amenities are.  Pick up a refillable resort mug and scope out where the refill stations are on property.  Then head out for a magical character meal for dinner.  What a great way to start your vacation!  Chef Mickey's in Disney's Contemporary Resort is the classic character dining experience or 1900 Park Fare is a good option if you're looking for princesses instead of Mickey and friends.  Either restaurant offers a lovely buffet with many delicious options.  Be sure to call (407) WDW-DINE to make reservations right away for either of these restaurants.

Day of Departure:  I think a visit to Downtown Disney is a great way to conclude your Disney vacation.  It's the perfect place to pick up any last minute souvenirs you want.  There are also a wide variety of spectacular restaurants where you can enjoy lunch before you depart for home.  If shopping is not to your liking, you can always opt for a round of miniature golf at one of Disney's adorable miniature golf courses

Wishing you and your family a vacation sprinkled with extra pixie dust!  Thanks for a great question.
