Hi- My frnd, panel mom, cathy directed me to you. we Sail on DCL June 8th from BArcelona. Can you tell me which excursions are Must do with 9 and 11 yr olds? We want to see everything but would like a few ports where we don't book thru DCl...to save $.

Our Mediterranean voyage aboard the Disney Magic was a trip of a lifetime. My son was 10.5 years old which was a great age to appreciate the historical sites. Prior to cruising, we watched documentaries on Pompeii, Rome, Carthage, etc.

We did all of the excursions on our own except for Tunisia. We felt it was safer to book a DCL tour in order to see Carthage and Sidi Bou Said. Since DCL will not be stopping at Tunis, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend touring on your own.

Our favorite destinations were Pompeii and Rome. In Naples, we walked to the station and took the train directly to Pompeii. Pompeii was so much larger than I had envisioned. The scenery is stunning. Walking into the homes and bath houses was astounding. We loved seeing the tracks from the chariots in the stones.

In Civitavecchia, we walked to the station and took the train into Rome. Once in Roma, we took the subway to the Colosseum. Wow! We then walked to the Roman Forum, had pizza for lunch, then took the subway to the Vatican. After, we stopped for gelato before taking a taxi to the Pantheon. Both the Vatican and Pantheon were spectacular. From the Pantheon, we walked to Trevi Fountain to toss in our coins assuring our return to Rome. We then took the subway back to the train station. It was one of the best days of my life. We all still fondly talk about our adventures in Rome.

At La Spezia, we took the train to the charming town of Pisa and saw the Leaning Tower.

The cruise is port-intensive so be careful of overbooking yourselves. We knew that we wanted to see everything that we could in Rome in one day. I pre-purchased our Colosseum and Vatican tickets so that we didn't have to wait in long lines.

Be sure to be on deck when you cruise into the Grand Harbor at Valletta, Malta. Valletta is a beautiful, walled city.

    Write back for more info!
