Hi Tracy!
Welcome to planDisney, and thank you for visiting us with your question today about your upcoming Disney vacation! I’m counting down the days until my next
Disney Vacation Club holiday, 68 days and counting!
The way Disney Vacation Club works is that you purchase an ownership interest in a Disney property. Typically, the contract lasts for 50 years from when the resort begins selling. Each year, Members receive an allotment of
Vacation Points based on how many they purchased when they bought their ownership interest. These points are the 'currency' used to make reservations at Disney Vacation Club resorts. Each property has its own point chart, which I’ve linked
here for you.
Owners also need to factor in annual dues. These are paid each year and are based on the number of Vacation Points they own and which resort they own at. It sounds like your friend is a Disney Vacation Club Member who has made a reservation for you to enjoy one of the DVC resorts - a great example of the flexibility that comes with membership.
Another thing to know is that Members can buy a small number of one-time-use points if they need a few extras in their Use Year. Up to 21 can be purchased per year, and at the time of writing, they cost $21 each.
I hope this helps to answer your question, Tracy. I wish you and your travel party the BEST time at whichever Disney Vacation Club resort you're staying at, you're sure to enjoy every minute - these resorts are so nice, you may not want to leave to visit the Disney Parks! If you have any further vacation planning questions, please
reach out to me. I'd love to help!
See ya real soon,
Matt
