My friend is wanting to gift me tickets from his govx account. He is prior military. He will not be attending. Can he do this?

Hi Erica, and welcome to planDisney! Thanks for stopping by with your question. How wonderful that your friend wants to sprinkle you with a little pixie dust and help make your vacation to the Most Magical Place on Earth possible!

This is a bit of a tricky question, so let’s talk through it. GOVX is a third-party seller offering discounted tickets for those who qualify, including military service members and military retirees. I just took a look at the Walt Disney World theme park tickets available on GOVX, and they are currently offering date-based tickets. Generally speaking, date-based tickets at a military rate do not require additional identification upon entry to the park, nor do they require park reservations. However, I was unable to confirm either on the GOVX website or by calling to speak with a customer service representative at GOVX whether a military ID is required in person at Walt Disney World to activate these tickets. Although the policies listed online when purchasing the tickets on GOVX do not state that a military ID is required to enter the park, I wanted to dig a little deeper. I just called to speak with a Walt Disney World Cast Member who did some research for us, and he found that a military ID is required upon entry to the park with these tickets.

If your friend is able to visit a local military base ticket office to purchase tickets, they sell military-discounted tickets that do not require further activation or military ID upon entry to the park. He would be able to purchase 1 to 10-day tickets for you, and you can use them on your own. It is important to note that this does not apply to the more deeply discounted Disney Military Salute tickets or the Disney Celebrates America promotional tickets. Those tickets do require a military ID in order to activate them at a Walt Disney World ticket window, so you would not be able to use those tickets without him present.

I also recommend taking a look at the special offers currently available through Disney that you may qualify for on your own. There’s a ticket offer for Disney+ subscribers, along with numerous offers for room discounts.

Erica, I hope this helps you navigate the ticket options and special offers for your upcoming vacation. If you have any more questions, stop back by and see me. I would be happy to help and love adding extra pixie dust to your Disney vacation planning!

    Magically,
    Casey
