My friend and I are trying to plan a Walt Disney vacation for our families, we'll have two young children with us- a two year old and three year old. Is this type of vacation better suited to older children? Should we wait another year?

    Hi Gillian,

You have a great question about when is the right age to first experience the Magic of Walt Disney World. My answer is quite simply, now. I have four children of my own, ranging in ages from 6 to 16 years old, and have vacationed with all of them since they were infants so I can attest to how the Walt Disney World Resort really is the perfect vacation destination for every age.

When families with young children ask me if they should wait until their child is older and can remember more of their Walt Disney World vacation I like to ask them a few questions in return. Why do we kiss our infants, snuggle them in our arms, and whisper how much we love them if they will not be able to recount this memory to us? Why do we celebrate their birthdays, first moments walking, and first holidays if they will never remember? We do these things because although our children may never be able to tell us what flavor their 1st birthday cake was, they will have these core memories imbedded in their hearts of being loved and being a part of our families. They will look back on our family photos of their first encounter with Mickey Mouse and remember how much they were loved.

Of course that is only part of the answer. As a Mom I treasure the memories of my children growing up and will never forget the time my 3 year old daughter asked Woody if she could see the bottom of his boot (yes, it did have "Andy" written on it). I will never forget riding Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin five times in a row with my 1 year old son and watching his eyes light up with joy. These are the moments which define our families and I am so glad I didn't defer our happiness until my children were older.

Gillian I could go on forever about the opportunity of "now" with your children, but in the end I hope you take the plunge and begin making memories with your families.

    Blessings,
