Dear Austin, welcome to planDisney! Thanks for stopping by with your question. I am so sorry to hear about your friend’s health issues. You’re a thoughtful pal to be thinking of how to make the visit most comfortable and enjoyable for your pal.
The good news is a reservation for a general theme park ticket can be cancelled even on the day you’re planning to arrive. (Magic Key Holders must cancel the day before to avoid a no-show.) Once cancelled, the ticket remains in the account for a new reservation to be made in the future. Most tickets purchased this year have
expiration dates in 2023 and 2024. To confirm the exact expiration date for your friend’s ticket, you can
contact Ticket Services.
Let me share some options that might help you make a decision about visiting the parks this week.
I am not sure if you have heard about
Disability Access Service (DAS) which is designed for Guests who have difficulty waiting in queues for extended periods of time. If a Guest qualifies for DAS, they can schedule return times for attractions to avoid waiting in line for long periods of time. When you are within 2-30 days of your visit, you can
schedule a video chat through DAS Advance to start the process (the Guest requesting DAS must be present on the video call.) However, if you miss the 2-day-prior-to-arrival window, no problem, you can visit City Hall at Disneyland Park or Chamber of Commerce at Disney California Adventure Park once you arrive and ask a Guest Services Cast Member for more information about DAS.
If DAS is not an option, another way to reduce time spent in line is using
Disney Genie+. (You can also use Genie+ coupled with DAS - I have heard many Guests praise the use of both together.) With Genie+ you can reserve
Lightning Lanes, which are faster queues. Even on a very busy day at the parks, I have used up to 12-14 Lightning Lanes in a day, and saved hours upon hours of time waiting in line. The longest I have ever waited in a Lightning Lane is 10 minutes, when the standby line was 60-90 minutes in comparison.
There are
Electric Conveyance Vehicles (ECV) available for rent, on a first come, first served basis. You can also bring your own ECV or wheelchair.
I am sharing all these options because I have seen how inclusive Disneyland Resort is to make sure that every Guest, no matter what
accommodations are needed, can have a wonderful experience. Hopefully this information will help you and your friend assess if a day at the parks would be doable and enjoyable.
If you do need to cancel your reservation, no problem – you can do that by logging in to your Disneyland account. Go to My Disneyland, Ticket and Reservation Details, View My Park Reservations, and click “Cancel Reservation” next to the reservation you’d like to cancel (if there are multiple Guests on that reservation, the next step will allow you to select which Guests to cancel for.)
I hope this information is helpful, Austin! The magic awaits you and your friend when you're ready.
