A friend and I are planning on taking our 3 teens and 2 tweens on a cruise some time this year. We're looking at either the Disney Dream 5-day or a 7-day Caribbean, but can't decide which! I did the 7-day a few years ago, loved it. Do you have any advice?

    Hi, Allegra!

Wow! I'm so glad to meet someone else who likes to hang out with teens and tweens, too. It seems I have a posse of them around me at all times! I'm also considering planning a cruise for my teens and their friends in a couple of years. So, take copious notes for me, will ya?

For now, let's roll up our virtual sleeves and plan this cruise considering all the angles. First of all, since you and your friend are likely to be the ones doing all the planning and paying, I would choose what sounds best for you. The kids are going to be sufficiently awed and amazed no matter what...it's you who you need to please the most!

I'm all for new experiences. Therefore, if you've taken the 7-day Caribbean cruise, I would consider the "other" side of Caribbean -- either East or West -- so that the ports of call will be different for you. More than likely, you'll be familiar with the ship, can steer everyone in the right direction and serve as your group's "cruise director."

Yet, if you would like a new ship experience, you've got to see Disney's Dream -- which is approximately 40 percent larger than the Magic or the Wonder. She truly is a spectacle to behold, and I can't wait to have my turn at sailing very soon! There's even more to see and do on a larger ship -- which may save you money in the long run by feeding and entertaining the kids mostly aboard the ship.  Hmmm...now, that's something to consider!

I hope I've helped you navigate through your choices...and sorry for the pun! Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
