Me and my friend are planning on running in the Princess Marathon in Feb. 2011, it is our first, I need in detail what to expect and to do not to miss out on anything, such as hotels, the expo, which parks to avoid on what days, crowds, etc. etc. thanks

Hi Patricia - a bunch of the Walt Disney World moms panelists (including me!) ran our first Disney Princess Half-Marathon back in March this year.  We had a wonderful time - it's definitely an experience I'd recommend to anyone who runs.

The first thing I'll mention is that this race is early in the morning.  We actually had to wake up at 3:00am to catch a bus, and the race starts at 6:00am.  While this sounds way too early to leave, we found that there were lines for the buses and lots of traffic at that hour, so it really does take a while to get to the starting point.

When you register for the race, you can see what the host hotels are.  I'd recommend staying at a host hotel - not only will you receive a discounted rate, you can also get a bus to the Expo and to the race from the host hotels.

The Expo is where you'll pick up your race packet, and also where you'll find loads of wonderful race and general running merchandise.  Bring your wallet, because there's some really great stuff there!  The Expo goes on for multiple days, but try to arrive early.  I went later in the weekend and was disappointed when a jacket I wanted was sold out.

As for parks, keep in mind that you'll need lots of rest.  It doesn't really matter which order you do the parks (they shouldn't be overly crowded), but make sure you go to sleep early before the race, and then, if you get a chance, a mid-afternoon nap after the race is a great way to recharge.

Finally, if you do visit the parks before the race, remember to keep hydrated!

    Good luck!
