I have a friend that is a 60% disabled military veteran who receives disability benefits from the government. He did not serve 20 years in order to qualify as a retiree. Would he be eligible for the Military discount at the Disney Parks

    Hi Kathryn! Welcome to planDisney.

I'm glad you stopped by with your question about the military discounts available at the Walt Disney World Resort. It can be confusing, and as a military spouse, it's always a pleasure to assist fellow veterans and military Guests. Please thank your friend for his service and sacrifice.

I recommend taking a careful look at the eligibility information in the Offer Details for both the Disney Military Salute Ticket offer and the discount for select stays at Disney Resorts Collection hotels. Generally, those using the military offers must be able to provide a valid and active military ID when activating the tickets at Guest Relations and checking in to their Disney resort hotel. As I understand it, active duty, reserve, retired, and 100% service-connected disabled veterans (with DAVPRM military ID) are eligible.

As a 60% disabled veteran, I would recommend that your friend take a look at the discounts available from Shades of Green, which is the resort hotel for military members and veterans at Walt Disney World Resort. Their ticket office staff are very helpful and could walk through which offers might apply to your friend. As a disabled veteran, he may also be eligible to stay at Shades of Green, which is a fantastic resort hotel with a great location, spacious rooms, and great amenities. I would recommend taking a look at their website and giving them a call to talk through the options available there.

When visiting the Walt Disney World Resort, I think your friend would enjoy the Flag Retreat at Magic Kingdom Park. I always have tears in my eyes during this moving ceremony, which honors those who have served as the flag is retired for the evening. This takes place daily, and veterans can check in at Guest Services to volunteer to participate; while there is no guarantee that they will be selected, it's always a pleasure to watch.

Thank you, Kathryn, for bringing this question to us. As you continue to plan your Walt Disney World Resort visit, please come back and see us - it's always a pleasure to help a fellow Guest with their Disney dreaming.

    Wishing you much magic,
    Robyn
