Hi Dianne! Thanks for bringing your question to planDisney.
I was once in your very shoes, and I can report that you're going to have the best time as a first-time visitor! While I frequently visit both parks, the Disneyland Resort has many features you won't find elsewhere. I'm happy to share some of these differences with you.
The best part of visiting a new park is experiencing new Attractions. Check out the
list to find those new to you Attractions you'll want to prioritize. There are quite a few in Fantasyland in Disneyland Park alone! Moreover, some classic Attractions are different from their equivalents at the Walt Disney World Resort. For example, don't skip a classic like Pirates of the Caribbean in Adventureland: You'd be missing an additional thrilling drop and more scenes.
Additionally, there are some iconic snacks you might want to grab. Disneyland Park is home to the original Mickey-shaped Beignet. Grab a few at the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square along with plenty of napkins. Over in Adventureland, you can find the popular Skewers at Bengal Barbecue. And while you're familiar, no doubt, with churros, many Guests believe Disneyland Resort offers the best options! Find a Churro Cart for your next quick treat. Check out
Disney Eats for all the latest news on dining in the parks if you like to plan your meals and snacks in advance.
I find
Park Hopper to be incredibly useful at the Disneyland Resort. You can so easily hop from one park to the other with this great option that it becomes a real value. Another option to consider is
Lightning Lane Passes. Disney PhotoPass is a perk included in your purchase of a Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Lightning Lane Premier Pass. That's a great way to preserve your memories from your first visit. If you purchase Lightning Lane, at this time, you will begin selecting return times after entering the park for the day, which is also functionally a little different than what you might be accustomed to.
I hope my advice helps you get planning for your upcoming visit. The anticipation is part of the fun!
Happy New Year!
Elizabeth
