A freind of mine is planning a trip to WDW with some European visitors. However he is in a wheelchair - how accessible are the parks and all the "must see" attractions for wheelchair users?

    Hi there, Victoria!

Thanks for checking in with me!

Walt Disney World understands that many of its Guests have special requirements, be they dietary, mobility, etc., and strives to ensure that each Guest has an incredible time while visiting.

Within the Disney Parks, access varies from one attraction to another, and can feature one of two types of entrances (Auxiliary or Mainstream) and Guest boarding requirements. The Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities, available at any Guest Relations, will be your best resource. Both the guide and park maps use symbols in advising what is required in order to visit that attraction.

On its own Web site, Disney provides a comprehensive overview of how various mobility issues are addressed (wheelchairs, Electric Convenience Vehicles, etc.).It goes a bit further to break out how each and every attraction uses a single standardized legend to inform Guests of its "level" of accessibility (need to transfer, can bring the chair on the ride, etc.). You'll even find out how and where accessible seating is located for the parades and nighttime shows (where applicable).

Please note that when a Guest is required to transfer from a wheelchair, s/he must either do this independently or have a companion assist. A Cast Member is not permitted to physically assist in a transfer.

If you'd like more assistance tracking down the accessibility of a particular ride or attraction, please contact me.

    Have a great trip!

    See you later, celebrator,
    Deborah B.
