With the free Magical Express ending at the end of the year are there any plans for 2022? Is there an alternative mode of transportation offered by Disney? What will the options be?

Hello and welcome to planDisney, Robert. Thanks for stopping by to ask a question here.

As you are aware, Disney's Magical Express Service will be discontinued at the end of this year. There are no plans, at this time, for Walt Disney World to provide a shuttle service for Guests after that. This was actually how things operated several years ago before Disney's Magical Express Service was offered. You will need to secure transportation to and from the airport on your own. Luckily, there are several options that you have to get back and forth, they'll just take a little research and budgeting.

Here are some ideas for you:

    • Rideshare service - Both major companies service the area and will drop you off right in front of your Walt Disney World Resort Hotel's lobby. They are both comparable in price but I do like to check both apps because sometimes there is a discount being offered on one of them. This is actually my preferred method of getting to Walt Disney World, even now with the shuttle service still being offered.
    • Taxi - Taxis are readily available right outside of the airport doors. There is never a wait for them and they can take you straight to your Resort as well.
    • Rent a car - Renting a car at the Orlando airport is very easy, I've done this multiple times. Something to keep in mind if you do rent a car is there is a fee for parking at the Walt Disney World Resort Hotels
    • Hire a car service - this is what my parents used to do before the Magical Express Service was offered. A quick internet search will turn up companies in the area that offer this service. Car choices to pick you up include a Town Car, SUV, Passenger Van and if you want to arrive in style - even a limousine.
    • Mears Connect - This is a new service being offered by the company Mears. Mears is actually who Walt Disney World contracts Disney's Magical Express out to. Since they aren't operating anymore, Mears has decided to start its own service. I don't have experience with this yet as it won't start running until January. You can find out more details over on the Mears Connect website.
As you can see, you have several options for getting over to Walt Disney World to start your magical vacation. If you have any other questions as you plan your trip, please feel free to stop back by and ask me. I'm here to help.

    Have fun and happy planning!

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
