Hi Colleen,
Welcome to planDisney! As the mama of a Mouseketeer with a disability myself, one of the things our family loves about our Walt Disney World Resort vacations is that Disney goes above and beyond to make sure that our trips are magical for
everyone in our family! They offer some wonderful
services for Guests with disabilities that make our visits run so smoothly, and our family is grateful!
You are correct that under the phased reopening,
face coverings are required for all Guests ages 2 and up, without exception. There are a few circumstances where you can remove your masks, like when eating or drinking and stationary and physically distanced, taking an outdoor photo and physically distanced, visiting a
Relaxation Station, or swimming, but face coverings are required for the vast majority of the day. I know for some of our kiddos, they can be difficult to tolerate. Do you have access to an Occupational Therapist? If so, they may be able to provide some tips to help your son become more comfortable with using a mask. If you don't, I'd recommend doing an internet search for tips from an OT on mask-wearing and try some of the suggestions on your own. If it's simply just not possible for him to wear a mask, though, postponing your visit until the face-covering requirement is lifted would be best for your family. While we don't yet know when that will be, I'd encourage you to keep an eye on the
Disney Parks Blog or
Disney's social media channels for announcements and updates. Of course, you could always call Disability Services at (407) 560-2547 to discuss this further with them.
Thanks so much for visiting us at planDisney, Colleen, and please feel free to come back and see us if you have any other Disney-planning questions.
Whenever you decide to visit, I hope you and your son have a truly magical vacation!
Missy
