Moms, I found out yesterday that I'm Type 2 diabetic; am at a complete loss as to how this will affect my vacation next week from touring the parks to dining (basic dining plan). Your input will be greatly appreciated. --{--@

Hi Rochelle! I am so sorry you leaned about your health issues so close to your vacation. But please do not let this dampen your plans and excitement.

Disney is well aware of guests who wish to visit the parks and dine that have various health guidelines and will do everything they can to help them along the way. Please first make an appointment with your personal physician at home and discuss your vacation plans with him/her. Let him know that you will be in the heat and on your feet and dining at various locations. They will be able to provide you with a proper list of dietary restrictions they feel you should follow as well as how to handle the weather elements in your condition.

When you arrive at a table service restaurant please let your server know that you have dietary restrictions and they will have a chef come to your table to discuss the menu. They can alter items listed to meet your needs or will simply come up with something new.  If you wish to dine at a counter service location and you are unsure of the ingredients in something just ask for the manager in charge and they will let your see the binder of all the offerings and what is included in each.

Stay hydrated while you are in the parks and in the sun and wear plenty of sun screen and hats. There are many places to rest in the parks that include air conditioning and each park also has a first aid location if you are feeling over heated and need to sit comfortably for a bit.

You will do fine and you can enjoy the parks and the magical Walt Disney World vacation!
