Is the following possible: We charge our purchases (food, genie+, souvenirs, etc) to our room via Key to the World card and then pay off the balance(s) over our trip using Disney Gift Cards? Staying at AllStar and eating table service + snacks daily.

    Cindy,

Thanks for asking your question to planDisney!

I love your budget planning! We are clearly cut from the same cloth. Yes, with a bit of planning, you can do what you have just described, by paying off your purchases with Disney Gift Cards via your Disney's All-Star Sports Resort account.

My family and I just got back from a Disney vacation yesterday, and on our trip, we did just what you described. We would charge purchases, from souvenirs to dining to snacks on our hotel room account. Then, pretty much every afternoon or evening I would go to the hotel front desk to have more of our gift card balances applied to the room charge. What you want to do is be sure that you are regularly applying those gift card values to your account before the hotel hits its threshold for billing the credit card you have on file. But as long as you are staying ahead of that, you should be able to do just what you described.

    WARNING
I have answered similar questions in the past, and often I would mention in those replies that you could pre-apply some of your gift card balance onto your hotel room account. This would result in a positive balance on your account, from which purchases would be paid. In my several visits earlier this year, they have no longer allowed me to apply this kind of positive balance.

    BONUS TIP
When you check in, ask what the account threshold amount is so that you know when they will charge your credit card. This will tell you when their system automatically charges your credit card on file for a specific amount. So, as a hypothetical example, let's say that the hotel threshold is $500. That means that when your cumulative charges reach $500, the system will automatically charge your credit card the outstanding balance. With this information, you can get an idea of when you may want to go put more gift card money into your hotel room account.

Please feel free to write me back directly if you have any follow-up questions.

    Have a Magical Vacation!
