Hi! We are flying into Orlando and WDW a day earlier than our grandchildren and their parents. We are looking for a way to surprise them by being there. Do you have any good ideas or tips?

    Hi Margaret,

It's lovely to see you stopping by planDisney with this magical surprise!

Looking at your arrival date, I am running in circles thinking about all of the things to do!!!

Let's talk about this grand meet-up. If you know where they are staying, you could surprise them in the lobby when they arrive. Or, you could order from In-Room Floral and Gifts to have a surprise delivered to their room including a note announcing that you are there. Third idea - if you know their dining reservations and are able to make a reservation for two at the first dining location, you could surprise them there. One last suggestion from my fellow panelist Jennifer - you could try to book a Private VIP Tour. Given that they may have already planned to purchase Disney Genie+ on that first park day, I would let them know about the Private VIP Tour prior to that day. You could send a magical note or just tell them you booked a tour and then surprise them at the tour pick-up location. Keep in mind that In-Room Floral and Gifts and Private VIP Tours service Disney Resorts Collection and other select hotels, so just double-check to make sure they can deliver to and/or pick-up from where your family is staying.

If you all (the grandparents) are planning to just follow along and do not plan to do any rides/attractions, then, you should be fine. If you want to join in the attraction fun, you will need to connect in My Disney Experience through the My Family & Friends List if you already have an account. If you do not have an account, create one and then send an invitation to connect. Your theme park tickets/park admission should be linked in your My Disney Experience account, so once you connect, they will be able to see those tickets and any other linked plans.

I am so glad you stopped by with this question because the Disney planner in me is in a bit of a fairy godmother tizzy since you may not have any other plans booked aside from your travel. If you booked your vacation with a travel agent and/or your family members booked theirs with a travel agent, perhaps the travel agent can help get you plans that match theirs (i.e. dining reservations, Enchanting Extras Collection experiences). In reality, this might mean that you all dine at the same locations but you all (grandparents) dine at a table for two while the rest of the family has their own table. If you have all of this covered, I can put my wand down!

Margaret, thankfully, you have about a week to determine what the surprise will be and make some additional plans if needed. And, if you do not mind watching the grandkids, you could offer their parents a date night alone. I am guessing that might be truly magical! Sending you a little extra pixie dust trusting that those final plans come together!

    Magic and memories,
    Donyell
