Flying down Jan. 2010 with DH and 3 kids. Would like to eat an economical breakfast in the room (yogurt, oatmeal, etc.). How can I get these inexpensive groceries without renting a car? Thanks! You all are a major help in the planning process! Leslie

Leslie, many families are just like yours and don't prefer to have a heavy meal to start the day.  It is more economical to have a few things in the room too!

You did not mention where you will be staying or perhaps you haven't made that decision yet so hopefully the following information will help you with that.

All moderate and deluxe resorts have a small refrigerator in their rooms, The All Star and Pop Century resorts have the possibility to rent one for your stay  for about $10 a night depending on availability.  Full kitchens can be found in all of the Disney Villas, Fort Wilderness cabins, Old Key West, and Saratoga Springs.  Microwaves can only be found in the Villas, Fort Wilderness cabins, Old Key  West ,and Saratoga Springs.  It is sometimes possible to request one at the Grand Floridian resort.

You can find a small grocery area near all Villa resorts where you can purchase simple food items for breakfast and lunch etc.  You can reach those via the Disney bus transportation but there are no direct bus routes from one resort to the next.  You would have to make a change at a park or Downtown Disney.  There is a full grocery store at the Crossroads which is across from Downtown Disney and would be a short cab ride from any resort.  This is a Goodings and is open 24 hours a day.  There are also a few grocery stores that will deliver so check with your resort to get the current list and their numbers.

I hope this information is helpful....I think it is very possible to get what you need without the expense of renting a car for your stay.
