I am a Florida resident and would like to take my 6 year old grandson, also a Florida resident, on a Disney cruise. Are there any special discounts or rates for this?

Welcome to planDisney, Kimberly! I couldn’t think of a better way to make memories with your grandson (and potentially win the “Grandmother of the Year” award) than by taking him on a Disney Cruise.

I actually convinced my dad to take me and his grandkids on our first Disney Cruise vacation together when we lived in Florida years ago because of the Florida Resident discount available. In addition to the savings, being a Florida Resident makes sailing away even easier because of the two different ports to depart from: Port Canaveral and Fort Lauderdale. If you look at the Special Offers tab right now, you’ll see you can save 20% off certain itineraries on select dates. I’ve also seen the discount vary between 20-30% in the past, depending on availability.

There are a few things you should keep in mind as you look into the Florida resident special offers:
    1. Disney Cruise Line typically discounts sailings within the next 2-3 months, so if you’re looking to take a trip later in the year, check back about three months before your ideal sail date.
    2. You may not get to choose your exact stateroom. While you can guarantee your preferred stateroom type (e.g. Verandah or Oceanview), you may not get assigned your stateroom number until you arrive to check in.
    3. Florida resident rates are typically offered on Caribbean cruises.

My family lived in South Florida for a decade and took advantage of the discount to sail on Disney Cruise Line as often as time and finances would allow. And because our drive to either port was only a couple of hours, we could plan a trip without much advance notice.

I even noticed some of the current Florida resident savings applied to the 5-Night Western Caribbean Cruise with Marvel Day at Sea. If your son is a Super Hero fan like my kids, then this would be a one-of-a-kind trip where he could meet some of his favorite characters from the Marvel Universe. (This is one of those times where I say the trip is for my kids, but really I enjoy the action-packed activities just as much as they do!).

I hope these savings set you up for a super sailing at sea soon. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to fly back to us here at planDisney!
