As a Florida resident, my car will be at the resort anyway. When is a good time to use it and when is it not worth it? I also read somewhere that you can park at Contemporary and take the monorail to MK, can you do that and is it a good idea?

Hi Eileen! We have had many Disney vacations where we never used a car once but there are times when one can come in handy to shorten your transportation times to a special dining reservation.

Resort to resort transportation will take you a lengthy amount of time and this is the first place I would consider using a car or a taxi. If you depend on the park buses you will have to catch one to a park or Downtown Disney and then transfer to the resort you need to head to. This can take up to an hour or hour and a half and by car the trip can take minutes.

When heading to the parks I usually take the Disney buses as they will drop you off closer then if you drive unless you are there early before opening.  The one park I NEVER will drive to is the Magic Kingdom as you park and then have to still transfer to a ferry or a monorail. Resort guests have it easy as they are dropped of from the bus a mere steps from the entrance.

You cannot park at the Contemporary and walk or take the monorail to the park anymore. I am one who used that trick a few years back but they have enforced the no parking rule now and will stop you at the entrance gate to the resort unless you have a dining reservation. This is only fair to the guests who are staying there as it became difficult for them to find parking. With the addition of Bay Lake Tower this really became an issue.

Downtown Disney is also a spot you might consider driving although during certain times of year such as the Christmas holidays the parking is hard to come by.
