What is the Flag Family and how does a family get "picked"? I just saw it mentioned in another ? and saw that it's at the WL - where my fam is staying in April 09. Thanks!

On most days at the Wilderness Lodge a guest family is allowed to accompany a ranger up on the roof of the building and raise the flags (US, Florida, Wilderness Lodge, and Disney). The views are said to be incredible and there are some great photo opportunities to be had here. The rangers are very friendly and talkative and will usually spend some time on the roof describing the various landmarks.

This is also one of the few magical Disney events that you can have some influence on. Often, all you have to do to be the Flag Family is to ask. When you check in at the front desk, simply ask the cast member there if any Flag Family slots are open during your stay. As this is a popular event. others may have asked before you (only one family is chosen per day), but if a slot is available, you will be told where and when to meet the ranger for this very special Disney experience.

    Good luck!
