Hello Barbara!
First time cruiser in the house! Welcome welcome! I am so excited for you and cannot wait to help you navigate the cruise planning waters. Take a deep breath and get ready to experience all the fun that comes with sailing with Captain Mickey and crew!
One of my favorite destinations is Disney's private island,
Castaway Cay...partly because the day can be filled with whatever my family wants to do! We can be busy and active with biking, swimming, and running around the island or as leisurely as we want by hanging out in a hammock or a lounge chair on the beach.
Sorry to say, but the
Experience Updates page tells us that the Castaway Cay 5K group race has been temporarily paused. However, Guests can still run the race on their own (no registration required) while practicing physical distancing. So no need to fret about registering AND you can run it any time you please (good news for people like me who are not early risers). And here’s the consolation prize: all participants who complete the 5K run will receive a finishing medal. The
Disney Cruise Line Navigator app will have Information on where and when Guests can pick up their medals.
If you do run your own Castaway Cay 5K, be sure to follow it up with some R&R (rest and relaxation) on the beach. If chilling out is simply not your thing, my other favorite active experiences include watersliding at Pelican Plunge, snorkeling at the Castaway Family Beach, and biking around the island. Whatever your plans are, scroll to the bottom of
this link to find the Castaway Cay map and get a lay of the land in advance. The more you can know about the island’s layout ahead of time, the better!
Barbara, RUN back to planDisney if you need additional tips. We are filled with
advice for first time Disney cruisers and we can complete the planning RACE together.
Happy Sailing!
Sherry
