Hi! We're going on our first Walt Disney World vacation and just in time for the trip we bought an Insta360 camera before we knew selfie sticks weren't allowed. We've seen that tripods are allowed, is that correct? What do you recommend?

Hi there, Monica! Welcome to planDisney. I see you’re on your way to the Most Magical Place on Earth, and you’re investing in an awesome camera to capture the magic. I love it! I understand the draw of the camera you’re referring to and the usefulness of the selfie stick. Still, you are correct - the Disney World Park Rules are pretty clear, stating “Selfie sticks, hand-held extension poles for cameras or mobile devices, flags and banners are not allowed in any theme park or water park.” I’m so glad you caught that!

The good news is that your new camera can be mounted on a tripod, which is absolutely allowed! There are two requirements: it must fit inside a standard backpack and cannot extend beyond 6 feet. To be extra clear, acceptable backpack dimensions at the parks are 24" long, 15" wide, and 18" high. As long as your tripod fits those specifications, you’re good to go. Let the memory-making begin!

Monica, there is so much to be excited about at the Walt Disney World Resort. You’ll be visiting during Cool Kids Summer, which gives you access to all sorts of fun activities and perks. My kids loved the drawstring backpacks we picked up from our resort lobby. Another great perk is free admission to Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon on your check-in day. How cool is that (literally)?!

Magic Kingdom is bringing the magic with Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away. This nighttime parade is magical beyond belief. I especially love the float featuring Peter and Wendy flying over the London skyline. Also, I’m not sure how long you'll be visiting, but the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival begins on August 27th. If you’re able to experience this delectable spectacle, your taste buds will thank you.

Monica, I hope you have the most fabulous time at the Walt Disney World Resort. Capture the magic with your new camera and have a blast. If you need help with any other planning questions or just tips and tricks, bring all your questions to planDisney. We’re here for you!

I hope you have a magical day!
