Hello this is my first trip to Walt Disney World and I'm taking my 2 grandchildren. I have a 6 year old grand daughter and a 9 year old grand son could you give me some suggestions to make the experience great for the both of them but on a budget.

    Hi, Jaki!

I see your magical vacation is just a month away. How exciting! I am unsure how far along you are with your planning, but I will share with you all that I know about how to vacation at Walt Disney World while sticking to a budget - and not feel like you are missing out.

I find incredible value by staying on site at a Disney Value Resort. Our favorite is Disney's Pop Century Resort. By staying at a Disney Resort, you are able to use Disney transportation services from the time you leave the airport until it is time to go home, and for every magical moment in between! No need to pay for car rental or parking. Disney's Magical Express will pick you and your luggage up at the airport and bring you to your Resort - then back to the airport again in plenty of time to make it back home. You can also use Disney transportation buses to and from the Parks and the Downtown Disney Area. You also never leave the magic of Disney when staying on property. The Value resorts are fantastically themed, have great pools, and top notch service - it's a win/win!

We also order groceries from a local delivery service to help cut down on food costs. We purchase bottled water, milk, fruit, breakfast items, and snacks from These items can be delivered right to your resort. If your groceries make it before you do, your resort will hold them at Bell Services.

I even have some advice on how to avoid the inevitable 'I want...' from the kids. Before we leave, we purchase Disney Gift Cards for my boys to spend. This way, each child has the exact same amount of money to spend. They know that when their money runs out, that's it. I can tell my son, "If you get the pirate sword, you will only have $12 left to spend", making it easier for him to make wise spending decisions without mom and dad having to say no and looking like the bad guys.

Wishing you and your grandchildren a magical vacation, Jaki!

Hi, I’m Rachel! I am a “boy mom” to two rowdy little men at home and married to my high school sweetheart. I am fortunate enough that my prince charming loves all things Disney just as much as I do! For me, planning a trip to Walt Disney World can be just as magical as being there. It brings our family together as we dream, plan, and count down the days. I would be honored to help plan your visit and share in your family’s very own magic! Learn More About Rachel
