This is our first trip and I"ve found alot of dining for 8 yr old girls, ex Princcess, cinderella etc, but I also have an 8 yr old boy. Any suggestions of places that cater to the boys?

    Cindy:

With three boys myself, I don't know that the following restaurants necessarily cater to boys like, say, the princesses at Akershus for a girl, but each offer something enticing for the young "pirate" in your crew:

    • Sci Fi Dinner Theatre, Disney Studios:  Although we have yet to actually get seated in one of their "car" booths (they seat parties of 4 or less), my sons still love the place.  It's sandwich fare, and probably not the best value if you have the dining plan, but the science fiction, drive-in theme provides a lot of fun for young and old.
    • Whispering Canyon, Wilderness Lodge:  If your 8-year-old enjoys a practical joke, not to mention eating with his hands, then he'll go for the skillet dinner here.  Make time to explore the rustic lobby for hidden Mickey's.
    • Ohana, Polynesian: The coconut races and limbo provide "interactive" entertainment for the kids!  My boys loved the fact that waiters bring skewers to the table and slice off their meat right before their eyes.
    • Rainforest Cafe, Downtown Disney or Animal Kingdom:  I thought on our last trip that my 11-year-old might be outgrowing the animatronic elephants and gorillas that "perform" throughout dinner, but I was wrong.  On our next visit we'll check out T-Rex, same concept, just with dinosaurs and themed dining rooms!
Disney Mom Tanya just returned from Disney where her sons were asked by Cinderella to dance at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian during dinner.  You might contact her through her profile page and see if she'd recommend it!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
