We have our first trip planned for 3/21-3/26 (surprise for our kids 12 and 7)! We will be arriving in the evening and thought it might be nice to take the kids on a monorail ride to get the "magic"started. What is the best route from the Wilderne

    Hi Kelly,

Congratulations on your upcoming trip -- what a great surprise!  I'm not sure how late in the evening you'll be arriving.  Personally, I would just spend the evening relaxing in the resort in order to be well rested for the next day.  There are so many things to do at Wilderness Lodge.  Whispering Canyon Cafe is a fun restaurant that you should definitely try while you're there.  Also, the pool is great fun and Fire Rock Geyser erupts every hour.  At around 9:30, grab a seat down at the beach and watch the Electric Water Pageant pass by.

If you find that you still really want to ride the monorail when you arrive, take the ferry boat from your resort to the Magic Kingdom.  The monorail station will be just a short walk from the ferry dock.  For a special treat, ask a cast member if you can sit up front.  You may be turned down, depending on a number of factors, but it never hurts to ask.

If you're arriving early enough, you may want to make dining reservations for the evening at Chef Mickey's.  If it's later when you arrive, consider taking the monorail to the Polynesian or the Grand Floridian.  From the beaches at these resorts you'll be able to catch Wishes (the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom).  Just make sure that directly after the fireworks you head back to Magic Kingdom to catch your ferry back to the hotel.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation and good luck pulling off the surprise!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
