This is our first trip ever to Disney, I'm wondering what are the top must do things for a 6&7 year old girls, and how can I keep the costs to a minimum while still having the best possible experience? We booked a resort package at pop resort.

    Hi Dawn,

How fun to be planning a first visit to Walt Disney World!

I highly recommend that you order the free Disney Vacation Planning DVD. Watch it with your girls and involve them in the decisions. You'll never be able to do everything in one visit. So work with them to come up with a list of the top 5 or 10 attractions and activities that they don't want to miss.

This will also give you a chance to talk about what's most important in terms of time and money: a specific park, pool time, a character meal, visiting the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, etc.

When our daughters were young and we were new to Disney, we tried to take advantage of the experiences that were included in the cost of admission and seldom added extras. The free craft projects at the Kidcot Fun Stops in the country pavilions at Epcot, for example, are among our treasured mementos.

We also got each daughter a new Disney autograph book for each visit. They are inexpensive and are a lasting record of the trip.

To keep spending in check, too, we gave each girl a specific amount to use for souvenirs or special treats. You can get each a Disney gift card with the specified amount so that they each can see how much they have and know when they are have exhausted their funds.

One of my daughters often came home with money left; the other spent hers all in the resort gift shop while I checked us in.

We have stayed at Pop Century resort at least 20 times and always enjoy it. Pop Century is proof that you don't have to break the bank to have a great Disney resort experience. My girls still like sharing a pizza there by the Hippy Dippy Pool, a very inexpensive dinner.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if I can answer any more questions as you make your plans.
