FIrst trip to Disney, arriving at 930 am on Oct 18 and staying at POR resort. Dinner reservations at 5 in downtown Disney. Need help planning our day with our two sons since our flight is early we want to do soemthing a little more low key for day1.

    Danielle:

With a 9:30 a.m. flight, you'll probably get to Port Orleans by lunch--and there's plenty to keep you busy there until you take the ferry boat to Downtown Disney for dinner.

One of our family's favorite things to do when we arrive at Disney is spend time exploring our resort.  And Port Orleans won't disappoint!  Keep in mind that even though you'll be arriving in the middle of October, warm weather still reigns!  And if your sons are like mine, a trip to the pool will probably be on their "favorites" list.  (I used to hate that we'd go to Disney and my kids wanted to go to the pool....'we could do that home,' I thought...but now I embrace it and love to see all the differently-themed pools on property.)  Ol' Man Island is home to a well-theme pool area with slide, kiddie pool and even a hot tub.  If you get there early enough, you can check out its fishing hole nearby and rent cane poles for catch-and-release fishing. The pool has several shaded areas so you and the kids won't get so sapped by the sun that you can't enjoy the evening.

Leave plenty of time to get showered and ramble down to the mill, take in the sights and catch the ferry for dinner!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
