This is our first time at Disney. Our kids are 10 and 7. What is the best hotel to stay at that is "centrally located", close to EVERYTHING? Any and all recommendations welcome!

I hate to break it to you Barbara, but none of the hotels are close to everything.  Your best bet is to figure out where you will be spending the majority of your time and choose a resort closest to that point.  Doing so will make your decision much easier.  Here are my recommendations for resort hotels closest to various Walt Disney World destinations:

Animal Kingdom/Blizzard Beach - This one is easy.  The Animal Kingdom Lodge is as close as you can get.  It also happens to be brilliantly themed and gorgeously decorated.  As an added bonus, the sit-down restaurants are among the best in all of Walt Disney World.

Magic Kingdom - You have a few different choices, but my top one would be Disney's Polynesian.  Because it's a monorail resort, transportation to and from the Magic Kingdom is a breeze.  I'm partial to the tropical theme of the Polynesian, not to mention 'Ohana, one of our family's favorite restaurants!

Disney's Hollywood Studios/Epcot/ Boardwalk Resort area - My top choice in this vicinity would be Disney's Beach Club.  The pool is a destination in itself and the ability to walk to the restaurants in the World Showcase make this a popular choice among savvy travelers!

Downtown Disney/Typhoon Lagoon - Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort is not only close to both of these destinations, it's also features arguably the best pool of any moderate resort.  Recreational opportunities also about here (thanks in part to the marina) and the food court offers a plethora of options.

I apologize that I had to be the bearer of bad news, but hopefully I've helped to narrow down your choices!
