We are first time DCLers, going on the 3 night Bahama/Castaway Cay trip August 9-12. We are trying to be budget conscious. Is it possible in Nassau and Castaway Cay to just get off to enjoy the beach/snorkel without booking an “adventure”?

    Hi there, Rachel!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!  Your Disney Cruise Line vacation is coming up SO SOON!  I am so excited for you and know you are eagerly counting down the days until your adventure is finally here!  You are going to have an amazing time and make some really wonderful memories on this adventure with Captain Mickey!

One thing that is so fantastic about a Disney Cruise Line vacation is that so much is already included with your reservation!  Onboard entertainment, activities, food, sodas…. they are all included with your stateroom reservation!  My family loves a Disney Cruise Line vacation because you can stay as busy as you want OR make it as relaxing as you please…it’s simply up to you as to how much you choose to do and participate in while onboard!

When you stop at the different ports of call, you can most certainly explore on your own without booking an excursion and have an incredible time doing so!  In fact, my family rarely will book a planned excursion when we stop in both Nassau and at Castaway Cay because it is so easy to enjoy both those locations on your own!  We always like walking through the open-air market (think great souvenirs) that is walking distance from the port in Nassau!  If you prefer a beach day, grab some towels as you disembark the ship, get a taxi outside the port and ask the driver to take you to a nearby beach for the day!  Just make sure to arrange a pickup to get you back to the ship on time!

Castaway Cay is one of my favorite stops to make when cruising with Captain Mickey!  With crystal clear water and sandy beaches, the perfect beach day is waiting for you!  Complimentary snorkeling equipment is available near the lifeguard stands for Guest use and there will even be a variety of activities and entertainment for you to participate in, if you choose!  We love the Family Whale Dig and Crab Races!  Your Navigator app will have a full schedule of those events for you to plan your day at the beach around!

As you are packing for you vacation, grab some beach toys from the dollar store and bring them with you!  Then, you can discard them after your beach days and use that room in your suitcase for any souvenirs you find during your voyage!

Wishing you a magical and memorable adventure, Rachel!

    Happy Sailing!
