First time booking Disney- planning to go February 22 for a couple of days, do I need to book ride times now?

    Hello!

How exciting to be booking your first trip to Walt Disney World! I am happy to help you start to think about planning your magical vacation.

It sounds like you are considering purchasing Disney Genie+ Service, which will give you the ability to make Lightning Lane selections. You also may be considering purchasing Individual Lightning Lane entries, which are for only a few specific attractions, and can be purchased separately from Disney Genie+ Service. Finally, you may be interested in securing a spot in the Virtual Queues, which are currently only available for two attractions. Right now Virtual Queues are available for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT and TRON Lightcycle/Run at Magic Kingdom.

The important thing for you to know right now is that all of the possibilities I mention above are currently day-of purchases or bookings. There is no need to do anything right now for your trip in February! You would wait until the day of your theme park visit in order to secure any of the possibilities above. There are some great videos about Disney Genie+ and other services that can help you get started in thinking about how your travel party might want to take advantage of these services.

I would be remiss if I did not say that you can absolutely enjoy a day in a Walt Disney World theme park without using any of the above! You can enter the park and utilize the standby queues. The options above help you to reduce wait times and thus experience more attractions in a day; however, you can enjoy the attractions without using these systems as well. Currently, the only attractions that do not have a standby queue are the Virtual Queue attractions, and Virtual Queues are available at no extra cost to guests.

I truly hope that this information helps to get you started with your planning. Feel free to come back to planDisney with any further questions you have - we are here to help!
