First solo trip without hubby and kids-feeling guilty. My two kids were there in 2007, 2010, and 2011. This trip is a birthday gift from my husband. Have you ever gone solo? I don't want to be there and feel like an awful mom for not taking my kids.

    Hi Stacy,

I have absolutely gone solo to WDW. In fact, we've also gone as a couple while our son stayed home with his grandmother. I've even been on a 7 night Disney cruise by myself!!

Do not feel guilty. First of all, you should absolutely celebrate your birthday in the fashion in which your husband envisioned for you. And what a gift that he gave you - time by yourself in WDW! That is a very generous present and you should enjoy every minute of it.

My most recent solo trip was in September. I enjoyed time by myself at the pool, waking up at my leisure, a quiet breakfast in the food court while reading my book, shopping and more.

I do know the struggle that you are enduring though. As moms, we place it on ourselves. My hubby and I are going on a cruise in January without our son for our anniversary. I had huge bouts of guilt while planning it but then realized that we are better parents when we take time for ourselves.

The same holds true for solo trips. You will feel so rejuvenated! And I like that my son has learned to wish me a relaxing trip, ask me which rides I've enjoyed and then welcome me home again at the airport.

It's a different vacation for sure. You may wish at times that your family was with you. But don't dwell on it. Enjoy your very special birthday gift as the moments will pass all too quickly and you'll be back to reality all too soon. There are so many moms that will be jealous of your solo vacation!!

Go to your happy place - WDW - and savor the magic of solitude!
