If I make my first selection for a lightning lane at 7am for a ride at 8:30 am can I select another right right when I redeem the one at 8:30? Does it make sense to reserve 8am then book another right after redeeming that one if I rope drop?

    Hi there, Courtney!

Welcome to planDisney! You are going to love using Disney Genie+ Service at the Disneyland Resort. It's such a great way to maximize your time in the parks!

Using your Lightning Lanes well is key to a great park strategy. You can select your first Lightning Lane as soon as you have entered one of the theme parks (this is slightly different than Walt Disney World Resort if you're used to that system). I usually start my day by selecting a Lightning Lane for Indiana Jones Adventure because it's my favorite! You will be able to select your next Lightning Lane when one of two things happens:

    • You use your current Lightning Lane
    • Two hours have passed since you booked your last Lightning Lane
First thing in the morning your return times for Lightning Lane will likely be under two hours, so you'll want to choose a new one as soon as you redeem your current Lightning Lane to join the attraction queue. If your return time for an attraction is more than two hours away then I would recommend setting an alarm on your phone to remind you when it's time to choose your next Lightning Lane.

When it comes to park strategy, I like to use the Disneyland Mobile App to see what the return times for Lightning Lane attractions are before I choose my next one. If you tap the "+" sign in the bottom center of the app you'll see an option for "Book Lightning Lane Entry" that will open up the Tip Board. Make sure the button for "Show Only Disney Genie+ Lightning Lanes" is turned on, then you'll be able to see all of the current return times. If you notice that an attraction you love has a later return time I would recommend choosing that one so you don't risk the Lightning Lane spots running out!

If an attraction has a wait time under 20 minutes then you might consider saving that Lightning Lane for later. You can only use the Lightning Lane for participating attractions once each day, so choose wisely! We will often rope drop our favorite ride in the morning using the standby queue so that we can use a Lightning Lane to ride again later in the day.

You are going to love having our pal the Genie on your team at the parks, Courtney! Let us know if you have any other questions before your visit!

    Keep moving forward!
