This is my first marathon at Disney World, my first marathon completely. Do you suggest getting the Race retreat package and what is that exactly and the Chear squad package for my sister who will be watching the race? I don't know how crowded it gets?

    Hi, Sarah!

I love hearing from our first-time marathon runners! I hope training is going well and you're ready for the most magical 26.2 miles on earth :)

Understanding the different options available to enhance your race experience can be overwhelming, but I am here to help sort through them.

Race Retreat: This is an excellent option if you are wanting somewhere special to relax pre-race. All your nutrition needs will be met with a pre-race continental breakfast. In addition, there is comfortable seating, private restroom area, private bag check, and it's climate controlled - this feature is great if it happens to be cold or raining, you'll be warm and dry for a little while anyway. Post-race, you can head straight back to the Race Retreat for a full breakfast and character photos with that beautiful marathon medal. To maximize your value you will want to make sure you arrive pretty early before the race, and you'll need to run at a mid-level running pace in order to really make it worth it after the race. The Race Retreat tent will close at 1:00pm, so factor in how long you believe it will take you to complete the marathon, what you anticipate your corral placement to be (it takes over an hour to get everyone on the course) and calculate your value.

ChEAR Squad: If your sister plans to spectate, the Platinum ChEAR Squad Package would be your best bet. This will allow her grand stand seating at the finish line with access to hot/cold beverages and private restrooms. In addition, she would have access to the Race Retreat Tent beginning at 5:30am. So if inclement weather were to arrive during her wait, she has a place to go. She could then join you post-race for breakfast and character photos and all the additional amenities the Race Retreat offers.

I hope this helps, Sarah! Please let me know if you have any additional questions as you plan and prepare for your first marathon!
