This will be our first family vacation to DW. My kids will be 4, 2 and 11 months when we come in April. We are flying into Sanford, and I need to know if carseats are required on any of the shuttles? We don't want to lug 3 seats with us on the plane!

    Hi, Rebecca!

I’m so glad to hear you’re planning your family’s first visit to the Walt Disney World Resort! That first trip is so special and magic-filled, particularly for the little ones.

While it's not required by law to use a car seat or booster seat on airport shuttles or on Walt Disney World Resort transportation, such as buses and boats, children age 2 and up must have their own seats on airplanes. You're not required to use one, but the safest place for children is in a government-approved child restraint system or device, such as a hard-backed car seat or booster seat appropriate for their age, height and weight. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has also approved a harness-type restraint appropriate for children weighing between 22 and 44 pounds as an alternative to using a hard-backed seat called a CARES device. It uses an additional belt and shoulder harness that goes around the seat back and attaches to the passenger lap belt.

While your 11-month-old can sit with you in your seat as a “lap child,” the FAA strongly urges that your older two children be safely restrained in a car seat or CARES device. I hope this information is helpful, Rebecca. Please feel free to ask me any other questions you may have as you continue to plan your pixie-dusted vacation!

    Wishing you magic,
    Courtney
