    This is our first family trip to WDW & we are staying at POFQ. Are there any issues getting to the early character dining reservations, ours are at 8am. I had heard that buses dont start running until 1hr before the park opens.

    You shouldn't have any trouble making it to your early character breakfast reservations from Port Orleans French Quarter, Brian.  There is a special bus that starts making the rounds extra early for guests like you who have very important meals to make it to.  When you check-in, inquire about the character breakfast bus with resort concierge; he or she will be able to provide you with specific details about boarding that bus for transportation to your breakfast.  Have a great time!
