Family checking in at Art of Animation

Our first ever trip to Disney is after Thanksgiving! Our flight lands early, and we can't check in to Art of Animation until afternoon. With many restaurants closed and resort-hopping discouraged, how should we fill our pre-check-in time with two kids?

    Welcome to planDisney, Jessica!

Oh, my! Your very first trip to Walt Disney World? SO exciting!

Although we love visiting Walt Disney World throughout all seasons, some of my favorite trips were over Thanksgiving Weekend. You are in for such a treat!

You can easily drop your luggage at Disney's Art of Animation Resort's Bell Services upon arrival. Because your flight is landing early, you'll have left Ohio very early that morning, so consider dropping your bags and heading out to a late breakfast/early lunch. Grab a delicious meal at the impressive Quick Service Restaurant (no reservations needed) Landscape of Flavors, conveniently located at Animation Hall in your resort--right where Disney's Magical Express will drop you off. Consider packing a day bag with swimwear, and enjoy some November pool time after lunch. (I live in Pennsylvania; I know how valuable those warm Florida days can be when we arrive from up North.) You could easily enjoy a day at The Big Blue Pool, then head to your room when it is available.

Of course, if you'd like to visit one of the four theme parks, you can drop your bags at your resort's Bell Services and do just that. Consider heading over to Magic Kingdom Park--the heart of all the magic--and enjoying a bite to eat at a Quick Service location, or make a Magic Kingdom Dining Reservation and start your first visit off in spectacular fashion. To visit a park, you'll need a theme park ticket as well as a park reservation in the Disney Park Pass system.

Another option is to drop your bags and head to Disney Springs. Here, you can shop and dine for days, so there will be lots of fun things to do and see those first few hours on property.

No matter what your plans, be sure to download the super-convenient My Disney Experience mobile app so that you can keep track of all of your magical plans right from the palm of your hand.

As you can see, Jessica, you can make that first day as relaxing or exciting as you'd like. Because your Walt Disney World Resort hotel's Bell Services will take good care of your bags, you can choose to go almost anywhere!

Be sure to send additional questions our way as you plan your very special first visit to The Most Magical Place on Earth. We love to help!
