Hi Tiffanie,
Five- and six-years-old are the perfect ages for a first Walt Disney World vacation! My son was five when we took him for his first vacation at Disney and I will remember that magical trip forever. (I think he will too!)
You can expect magic from start to finish if you book a room at a
Disney-owned resort hotel. You'll enjoy all the perks that come with being a Walt Disney World resort guest. The theming at these resorts is unparalleled and you can't beat the free transportation options throughout property. I'm sure you can find a Disney resort that appeals to your travel party.
You can also expect to do plenty of walking during your vacation. If your daughter and niece are agreeable, bring strollers for them. At the age of five, my son rarely used a stroller in his everyday life, but at Walt Disney World he was often grateful for a means to ride between attractions. He even napped in his stroller some days. Be sure to schedule mid-day breaks for you and the kids to keep everyone in a good mood.
Expect that your niece and daughter will be enchanted by the Disney characters. Bring a pen and autograph book for each of them. Plan a
character dining experience during your stay as this is a great place to meet and interact with many of the characters. Call (407) WDW-DINE to make advance dining reservations.
Don't expect to do everything at Walt Disney World in one trip. Guests who have this expectation are setting themselves up for disappointment. Make a list of "must see" attractions before you go and be sure to build these into your itinerary.
Let us know if you have any additional questions as you plan, Tiffanie.
