Hi! We are going on our first Disney Cruise in a few weeks. I saw that there is an option to have low fat diet options while onboard. My husband and I follow a low carb, lean protein diet. Any ideas on what the low fat diet option looks like? Thanks!

    Hi there, Alicia!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!  I am so excited to hEAR that you have a Disney Cruise Line vacation planned for THIS MONTH!!!  Before you know it, you will be celebrating on deck as you head out for an adventure on the high seas with Captain Mickey!

I am so glad you came to us with your fantastic question about dining onboard and I am more than happy to help answer your question!  In addition to some dietary restrictions for my family, my husband and I also choose to eat a very “clean” diet similar to yours.  And, without question, Disney Cruise Line has been more than willing to accommodate us with our needs and requests – even if they seem a little bit “needy”!  We always just plan to discuss our preferences with our servers on the first night onboard so that they are aware of our preferences.

At dinner each night you will be presented with a menu to select your meal from and your server will also provide you with their recommendations.  On the menu, you will always find an “On A Lighter Note” section with lean protein options (chicken, beef and fish) to choose from and these come with a side of steamed vegetables.  This section of the menu does not change nightly, so if nothing appeals to you from there, select a protein from the main menu and request it with a side of veggies or add it to an appetizer salad!  You can also look ahead to the next night’s menu on the Navigator app and pre-order your dinner for the following night, ensuring that your selection and meal will be prepared just as you like it!  Your incredible servers, along with the onboard chefs, will do anything they can to ensure you are more than happy with your dinner each night, so don’t be afraid to just ask for something if you don’t see it!  Oh, and a hint...because the bread basket can be very tempting...we just ask that they NOT bring it to the table each night.  Out of sight, out of mind!

My recommendation for breakfast and lunch would be to visit the buffet at Cabanas where you will find a salad bar as well as a variety of other options to choose from.  Salads can also be selected from the quick serve dining near the pools if you are looking for something quick and easy!  Additionally, the Room Service menu has salads – or our favorite, the “All Hands on Deck” cheese plate that is a great afternoon snack or it can be ordered directly to your stateroom 24-hours a day!  Food is definitely aplenty on the “Mickey Boat”, and sometimes those desserts are worth it, but you can certainly find meals that will accommodate everyone’s needs!

Wishing you a magical and memorable adventure!

    Happy Sailing!
    Stephanie
