I will be going on my first Disney cruise with my family in January 2019. My wife and I have passports. Do my two 11 year olds and my 5 year old need them or is a certificate of birth good enough for them? Thank you for your time.

    Ahoy Adam!

How awesome it is to hear you're planning your first Disney Cruise Line vacation. Your family is in for such a treat - you'll be making memories that will bring you joy for years to come!

At this time, on a "closed-loop itinerary" cruise (one that originates and ends in the same U.S. port), U.S. Citizens are able to use a valid photo I.D. and certified birth certificate to board the ship and also to re-enter the country. My husband and I have passports, and bring birth certificates for our daughters, and it's always worked great. That being said, since your cruise isn't until 2019, passport regulations are always changing, and Disney Cruise Line "strongly recommends" that all Guests have a valid U.S. Passport. In the unlikely event of an emergency that would cause you to need to return home from a foreign port, passports provide the appropriate identification you would need to travel. You can keep up-to-date on current passport regulations at www. travel.state.gov .

It normally takes 6-8 weeks to get a passport, so if you decide to get them for the whole family, make sure you allow enough time to receive them prior to your embarkation date.

Thanks so much for cruising by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question. Let us know if you have more questions as you count down the days until your Disney Cruise Line vacation!

    Have a magical day - Diane W.
