First cruise in 4 weeks. No excursions, but we do want to swim at St. Maarten's & St. Thomas. How do we get there off of the ship and also, I've heard that some beaches allow "less clothing" then in the U.S. How do we avoid?

Hi Melissa. It’s almost time to embark on your magical voyage!

At St. Thomas, the ship will dock at Charlotte Amalie.

When venturing on your own, please be aware of the time. You’ll want to be back to the ship before All Aboard as the ship will not wait for passengers that are touring the island on their own. The ship does wait for guests on Disney Cruise Line excursions. However, this should not deter you from enjoying a day at the beach! Just get there early and leave with plenty of time to board the ship.

Magens Bay is about 20-25 minutes away via taxi. My favorite beach is Trunk Bay over on St. John’s! All beaches in the U.S.V.I. require clothing. Magens Bay does have an admission fee which is currently $4 per person with children 12 and under free. Lifeguards are on duty and the water is usually calm. Snorkeling is generally poor here however.

In St. Maarten where the ship docks at Philipsburg, it is possible to walk to Great Bay Beach from the port. Clothing optional beaches can be found on the French side of the island. Orient Beach, for example, is clothing optional.

Beachgoers at Great Bay on the Dutch side of the island may be without their tops but are generally clothed in beach attire. This is not the prettiest beach but it is the most convenient and the least likely to have topless sunbathers.
