first cruise ever. 1 wk Fantasy this Easter. I am reading about magnet decorated doors? Fish Extenders (I have no idea what they are) outside the doors? Please explain. Any other little extras I should prepare for? Kids are 10, 8, 5. Thanks moms! :-)

    Hi, Jeannine!

I'm excited to hear you're planning your very first cruise, and I'm so happy to hear you'll be sailing with Disney Cruise Line! Our first cruise was with Disney, and I can't imagine sailing with anyone else.

A fun way to celebrate your cruise is to bring magnets to decorate the outside of your stateroom door. Some guests keep it simple and put one or two magnets on their door, and other guests go all out with their magnet displays! On our last cruise, I used printable magnet paper and made some personalized mouse ears for our door. Not only was it a cute display, but the colorful magnets also helped us identify our stateroom in a long hallway where all the doors look alike!

Fish Extenders are a fun tradition created by fans of Disney Cruise Line. Fish Extenders are fabric pockets that guests hang from the metal fish wall ornament on the outside of their stateroom doors. (Thus the name!) Other guests bring little gifts to share with other cruisers who participate, and leave trinkets and surprises in the pockets during the cruise. It's like having a Disney Cruise Line "Secret Santa"! Cruisers interested in participating in the fun can find more information on Disney Cruise Line discussion boards such as DISBoards.com, or by googling "DCL Fish Extenders". There's lots of information out there! There are even Facebook groups where guests sailing on a particular cruise can meet up and plan a Fish Extender exchange. You can purchase custom made Fish Extenders on craft sites such as Etsy, or make your own.

Something else you'll want to prepare for is Pirate Night! This night of swashbuckling fun includes a pirate-themed dinner, a buccaneer bash and an awesome fireworks display. Your little cruisers will have a blast at this awesome event, so you'll want to pack your favorite pirate gear to play along!

I hope this helps with your packing and planning! - Diane W.
