Our first cruise the boys 8 & 6. What should we pack for the Mardi Gras cruise to the Caribbean?

    Hi there, Jeanette!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!  I am so excited to “sea” that you have your first Disney Cruise Line vacation planned for next year!  Such a WONDERful adventure awaits you onboard the Disney Wonder and at sea and you will undoubtedly have the best time!

My husband is from New Orleans, so celebrating Mardi Gras at our house is a BIG DEAL and we all look forward to the fun that comes with it!  And with a voyage departing from the Big Easy, I can imagine you will have lots and lots of Guests looking for a good time celebration while onboard!  While I am not aware of any specific onboard activities for a Mardi Gras celebration, that is not to say there will not be, but often those activities are not announced until once onboard.  Your Disney Cruise Line Navigator app will have a full schedule of onboard entertainment and activities, so you will want to ensure that you have that downloaded prior to your voyage so you will have it all at your fingertips!

The Disney Wonder is home to Tiana’s Place, which offers Guests a lively and entertaining dinner experience.  While dining there one night during your voyage you will get to experience the restaurant’s exclusive Cajun menu…and let me tell you, the white chocolate bread pudding dessert is DELISH!!  And the beignets pass my husband and boys’ approval so try those, too!  On this night there will be a Mardi Gras theme during the dinner, complete with entertainment and an appearance by Tiana herself!  Beads are distributed to Guests to add to the fun, but my family often brings our Mardi Gras masks, too!  But…be aware that this may not necessarily occur on Mardi Gras Day, but you will still get to partake in the fun at some point during your voyage!

As far as what else to bring, I highly recommend checking the recommended packing list that Disney Cruise Line provides as a guideline!  Your voyage will also have a Pirate Night one night, and it’s SO FUN to dress up as swashbuckling pirates for the fun-filled evening!  And, your boys may really enjoy a Pirates League makeover at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique!  My boys always look forward to their magical transformation…but one thing that I have learned is that it’s sometimes better to schedule appointments for early afternoon so that they can enjoy their new looks for longer!

I hope this information is helpful, Jeanette!  As you continue planning, please come back with any other questions you may have!

    Laissez le bon temps rouler,
    Stephanie
