We are going on our first cruise in August '10, we will be driving down from Indiana, would it be better to stay at a WD resort and take Disney trans to the port or get a hotel nearby and park at the port?

It really depends on your budget and the type of vacation that you envision prior to your cruise. First, staying a Disney resort will immediately immerse you in all things Disney. That evening, you could even have a character meal at a nearby resort.

Taking the ground transportation provided by Disney Cruise Line to Port Canaveral also adds to the excitement. You'll be met by DCL representatives that insure that your luggage is taken care of as well as answer any questions that you might have prior to boarding the ship. The bus ride to the Port takes about one hour and during that time, you'll be treated to a video that enhances your journey.

However, you may want an evening by the sea. The hotels near the Port will provide a seaside escape prior to your cruise. The advantage is that you'll be able to go to the Port on your schedule rather than a designated time. I like to arrive the terminal around 1:00 p.m. avoiding a long pre-boarding wait and being able to go directly to our stateroom to drop off our carry-on bags. Staterooms are ready at 1:30 p.m. Another advantage is that you won't be arriving at the same time as a bus load of people.

Depending on the number in your traveling party, you'll probably find that driving to the port is less costly than purchasing DCL ground transportation. Some nearby hotels will allow you to leave your car for free and provide shuttle service to the port. See www.mousesavers.com for additional details.

    Enjoy a magical voyage!
