Where can I find information about the cleanliness procedures/standards on Disney cruises? I would like to sail on a Disney cruise at some point, but I’m worried about germs

Why hello there Mary, I'm happy to welcome you aboard planDisney!

When it comes to the commitment to cleanliness on board cruise ships, I can personally attest after several years living and working at sea - from having to scrub and even literally swab the decks with buckets of bleach solution to carrying out inspections in a leadership capacity as an officer - that health and safety is of the highest priority on Disney Cruise Line vessels. While many of the specific procedures and details aren't readily accessible to guests, here are a few things that could help ease your worries to help you decide whether you feel safe and comfortable enough to embark on any vessel:

    • Though speaking with the shoreside Disney Cruise Line Cast Members may not necessarily provide specifics about these procedures, the fleet is part of the industry-wide Vessel Sanitation Program administered by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which does offer publicly-available information for guests seeking more information before they set sail. You can look up each of the Disney Cruise Line ships and find their most recent inspections, what violations may have occurred and where as well as how they were corrected.
    • Through the CDC website you can also see whether any ships have had recent outbreaks as well as what was done in response. As an example from my personal experience observing guest behaviors across several ships across the globe, I feel that if guests were more aware of the occurrence of risks like how quickly gastrointestinal illness can potentially spread on board and the havoc it can wreak on anyone's vacation plans (not to mention their body), there would be a far greater frequency of handwashing among seafarers. It is reassuring to see how dedicated the Disney Cruise Line crew are at strongly encouraging guests to wash and sanitize their hands throughout the day!
I hope that this was helpful to you Mary, as I feel it's always best to be as informed as possible whenever you need to make a decision regarding your health. Come back to us again here at planDisney any time for more answers or advice as you look forward to future adventures!

Here's to your health in the highest regard whether on land or at sea!
