My fiancé has suffered an ankle injury and is now in a brace. Is there any steps we can take to ensure we can get a scooter or wheelchair?

Hi there, Kaylin! I'm always happy to welcome a fellow New Yorker to planDisney, so thanks for stopping by with your question!

Oh my, the countdown to your Walt Disney World Resort vacation is finally here! In just a few short days, you will be off on your adventure, enjoying all the magic that Walt Disney World has to offer. You must be so excited! But, ugh, such a bummer that your fiancé was injured! I am so sorry to hear that. No need to worry, though, Kaylin; I'm here to ensure you have all the information you need for your fiancé to have an accessible and fabulous vacation!

Renting a Wheelchair or Electric Conveyance Vehicle (ECV) is as easy as can be at Walt Disney World. You will find a rental station near the entrance to each theme park. Here you can work with one of the fabulous Cast Members to get set up with your rental, and you are on your way!

Now, there are a few things to consider when it comes to renting a wheelchair or ECV. First, there are two rental options for a wheelchair; a daily rental or a length of stay rental. With a length of stay rental, you pay a discounted rate by pre-paying for all days you plan on needing a wheelchair in the parks. Then, simply show your paid receipt at the rental counter and pick up your wheelchair for the day. Unfortunately, length of stay rentals are not currently available for ECVs. Since pricing is subject to change, I recommend visiting the wheelchair rentals and ECV rentals pages on the Walt Disney World Resort website for the most up-to-date rental pricing information.

Another thing to remember is that rented wheelchairs and ECVs cannot be taken outside of the park you rented them from. They need to be returned to the rental center before moving to a new location. So, if your fiancé requires a mobility device to and from your resort or between parks, I would recommend considering a private rental for the entire length of your vacation. ScooterBug is the Disney Featured Provider of wheelchairs and ECVs, and makes renting for your vacation super simple! In fact, if you are staying at Disney Resorts Collection hotel, ScooterBug will work directly with the hotel Cast Members to manage the delivery and pick up of your device. This way, you don't have to stress and can just focus on having fun! I recommend visiting them at http://scooterbug.com/orlando to learn more about their rentals ahead of your visit.

Kaylin, it looks like you will be arriving just in time to enjoy the tail end of the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts! There is so much to see during this fabulous festival, which ends on February 21st, so you won't want to miss it! I particularly enjoyed the fantastic chalk art near Port of Entry. You won't believe how talented these artists are! Also, make sure you pick up a couple of artfully delicious bites from the festival's outdoor kitchens. I LOVED the Chicken Kushiage from Goshiki near the Japan Pavillion. YUM!

I do hope this answer has been helpful to you! Please feel free to stop by with any other questions as you finalize your plans. I'll be wishing you the most magical Walt Disney World Resort vacation!

    Have a fabulous day!
