My fiancé and I are starting to plan our honeymoon for WDW are we are trying to figure out if we should get the Disney Dining Plan or pay for our food as we go? We are planning a few sit-down meals, but not for each day. How can we save some money?

    Hi Jordan,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Love is in the air. My husband and I honeymooned at the Walt Disney World Resort and it was more magical than I ever hoped it would be!

Since honeymoons are supposed to be stress-free, I suggest that you purchase a dining plan. With a dining plan, you will have a solid estimate of what your food costs will be. We have done the Disney Dining Plan and the Disney Deluxe Dining Plan. Without a dining plan, we worry about the cost of food, drink water and skip dessert to save money at meals - none of which would be fun to do on a honeymoon. So while I know a dining plan saves my family money, I also have come to value the incredible food options included on a dining plan, especially because we love to eat!

One of the hidden values of the dining plan are the resort refillable mugs. On our last trip we probably refilled these at least three times each day. The snacks are also worthwhile, especially since Disney days can be long. We use our dining plan snacks to buy frozen lemonades or other treats. Most of all, we have come to appreciate the experience of dining well at the Walt Disney World Resort. One of my new favorite restaurants is STK Orlando!

Jordan, you can save other money by bringing your own snacks to eat while in the parks and bringing water bottles. Many restaurants will give you free cups of ice water (yes, free). We use those to refill our water bottles. I also suggest that you check out the menus of the restaurants you want to visit. Review the prices to get a sense of how much a meal would cost there. Compare prices with the cost of the dining plan (and don't forget snacks and refillable mugs).

Magic, memories and Minnie Mouse hugs,
    Donyell
