a few months ago I purchased yearly passes. I was wondering if I use those if I can still get the free dining plan, the way I read it I would need to buy a ticket package, if this is the case can I return my yearly passes and just buy the ticket package

Hi, Pam! Being an annual passholder has many advantages that can far outweigh any benefits you may receive by getting a free Disney Dining Plan with a ticket and accommodations package. In addition to receiving up to 20 percent off of various restaurants and dining throughout WDW as an AP holder, you can also receive a discount on Tables in Wonderland which gives you significant dining discounts for you and up to 9 guests. Also, you may be eligible for a room-only discount with your AP, and you can find that out by calling 407-WDISNEY. Plus, there are several discounts on recreation, tours and merchandise available for passholders. So, by all means, hold on to your Annual Pass...it can be a gold mine of discounts yours for the taking! Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation!
